Second Annual Symposium of World Rabies Day

On Saturday 4 October 2008, from 8:30 up to 14:00, the second Annual World Rabies Day Symposium held at Modares hall in Pasteur Institute of Iran. More than 400 attendants consisting: - Staff of Rabies Health Center from different provinces of Iran, and cities which have a high incidence of animal bites and post-exposure treatment. - Members and representatives of Ministry of Health. - Members of Centre for Diseases Control & Prevention - Ministry of Education & Development. - Journalist of different newsletters and magazines. - Staffs from different departments of Pasteur Institute of Iran. - Veterinarians of deferent centers from Tehran and other cities of Iran. The event is sponsored and organized by Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Ministry of Health and Pasteur Institute of Iran. Speakers presented their speeches as follows: -Deputy director of research on behalf of Director of Pasteur Institute of Iran. -Dr. Ahmad FAYAZ, Director of WHO-Collaborating Center for Reference & Research on Rabies, Pasteur Institute of Iran. -Dr. Nowrouzi, Director of Veterinary Organization of Iran. -Dr. Gouya, Director of Center for Disease Control and Prevention. -Dr. Meshcut, Deputy Director of Health and Prevention of Veterinary Organization of Iran. -Representative of Health & Prevention of Social Hazards, Ministry of Education and Development. -Dr. Massoudi, Representative of Wildlife & Natural History Museum, Environment Protection Agency. Events around the World Rabies Day also include extensive media coverage and information distribution: propaganda, Radio & TV Interviews (with Dr. A. FAYAZ, GOUYA, …) . On that day, the speakers highlighted the critical points such as: •Importance of Rabies Disease in Iran (by: Dr. Ahmad FAYAZ). •Rabies in Animals. •Activities on Rabies Control in Stray Animals and Vectors of the disease. •Implementation strategies on Rabies Control of Veterinary Organization. •The role of Information & Awareness of Rabies Disease. •Application of Oral Rabies Vaccine in Wildlife. In addition, booklets, Pens, Folders and different posters,… regarding Rabies importance and its prevention & treatment has been donated to all participants, and finally , the symposium closed by a lunch banquet on that day.

World Rabies Day

A running vaccination program for dogs and cats free of charge, distribution of educational material on rabies control and prevention, dog and cat safe handling processes. central ceremony under the patronage of the minister of Health with all relevant institutes in Syria on the 28th of September, a special T.V. program in the syrian sattelite channel about the event and its aim and preventive information on rabies. many articles in the local newspapers. the ministry of education will located on the world rabies day special time to provide information about rabies and its prevention and control in all syrian schools. posters and leaflets will be distributed and special training program for the humane handling of stray cat and dogs will be carried on with the support of WSPA.
